Counseling and Community Resources
Counseling services are provided for all students by the LCHS counseling department. Counseling is a process to aid students in problem solving and decision making. The counselor assists the student with their high school academic program, post high school planning and exploration, and social-emotional struggles. The counseling department can assist students with college exploration, interest inventories assessment, and career education activities to help the student evaluate their progress, strengths, and future plans. Students are encouraged to make appointments to see a counselor to take advantage of many services available, as well as utilize the resource section of this page for community supports.

Dual Credit
Students at Luxemburg-Casco High School have several opportunities to earn dual credit in grades 9-12. These options are listed below.
Advanced Placement (AP)
AP courses are college-level courses taught in high school following a specified curriculum as outlined by the AP College Board. Upon completion of the course, students may elect to participate in an AP exam for a fee where they have the opportunity to earn college credit. Most colleges award college credit for achieving a specific score on the test. College credit is not guaranteed in an AP course.
UW-Oshkosh Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP)
CAPP is a UW-Oshkosh initiative and collaboration with participating high schools to provide students an opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. It is a concurrent enrollment program, meaning courses are taught by certified high school teachers who hold adjunct lecturer status with UW Oshkosh during the regular school day. Students receive both high school and college credits for your work at a reduced fee of $105 a credit.
UW- Green Bay College Credit in High School Program (CCIHS)
The College Credit in High School program is a dual credit program where students earn both high school and college credit for a class. UW-Green Bay offers college credit courses within high schools and provides opportunities for high school students to engage in college-level learning experiences. Courses are taught by qualified and approved high school faculty, and students pursue rigorous advanced subjects and can earn college credit upon successful completion at the reduced rate of $105 a credit.
NWTC Transcribed Credit
Transcribed credit courses are taught by high school teachers with Wisconsin Technical College System certification. Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) curriculum and assessment methods are used, and students will earn college credit through NWTC at no cost. Many transcribed credit agreements are transferable to other Wisconsin technical colleges and may transfer to four-year universities.
The grade a student receives in a CAPP, UWGB, or NWTC transcribed credit course becomes part of the student’s official college record and will be shown on their college transcript. If you would like to learn more about the courses available at LCHS, please contact your student's counselor.

FAQ
We are routinely asked certain questions and thought we could provide some general responses here. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact your counselor.
- Q. I Didn't Get The Classes I Signed Up For
- Q. When Should I Take The ACT?
- Q. I Applied To College Or A Technical School, Now What?
- How Can I Find Out What I Might Be Good At Or What Career I Might Like?
Q. I Didn't Get The Classes I Signed Up For
A. Unfortunately, it is likely that you will not get all of the courses you requested when filling out your scheduling form. This happens at every school and will likely happen in college as well. Many factors go into creating a schedule including, how many students signed up versus how many seats are available, how many staff we have, what space is open as well as prerequisites needed. Remember, these are requests which is why it is important to have options in the form of electives and alternates. Try something different, take a risk, explore other courses that you might not have originally picked. This is one of the best ways to determine possible pathways for your future!
Q. When Should I Take The ACT?
A. While some students take it their sophomore year or earlier, many of the questions on the ACT pertain to information students haven't been exposed to yet. Many students take it more than once, and are required to take it as juniors at school. Considering that most colleges accept applications in the fall of your senior year and test scores should be included, the latest you might think about taking it would be summer between junior and senior year. Colleges will accept your highest score so you can send them to your school of choice more than once.
Q. I Applied To College Or A Technical School, Now What?
A. There are a few things you will probably need to do:
-
Send a transcript! We are happy to send your transcripts AFTER you have applied to a school, but YOU need to take the responsibility to contact us and follow up with the school to make sure they were received! (**If you took a course through NWTC-please contact them to send a transcript as well)
-
Send in your ACT scores if applicable. If you didn't have scores sent to the school you applied to when you took your ACT, in some cases you will need to contact ACT directly to have them sent.
-
If you are attending a technical school, contact them directly to discuss testing. They may accept ACT scores or have their own testing program.
-
Some schools may require letters of recommendation. You will need to ask 2-3 teachers, employers, advisors, coaches (NOT family or friends) to write these for you. Letters should be given directly to your counselor by the person writing it and we will send them to the school on your behalf.
How Can I Find Out What I Might Be Good At Or What Career I Might Like?
A. Students do work with Xello starting in 6th grade and it is an excellent resource for continued research and investigation into possible careers. Students will develop an Academic and Career Plan that will be housed in their Xello portfolio also.

NCAA
Students planning to participate in sports at the post-secondary level need to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse after the completion of their junior year. Registration should be completed online at www.eligibilitycenter.org.
Students are strongly advised to include the NCAA on their ACT/SAT registration form using code 9999.
Upon completion of their junior year, students should request to have a copy of their transcript sent to the NCAA Clearinghouse from High School Counselor Lindsay Allen. High school graduation requirements differ from the course requirements that determine eligibility for a Division I or II sport in college. Please refer to the “Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete” that can be found on the website listed below or by clicking the link below to understand core area requirements. It is the student’s responsibility to enroll in NCAA-approved courses; a list of approved courses can also be found at the eligibility center.

Options for High School Credit
Educational Options at Luxemburg-Casco-High School include learning opportunities and experiences that occur outside the realm of a “normal” school day. We fully realize the educational nature of such ventures, and we encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities by offering competency-based learning experiences. Any educational option needs to be pre-approved by multiple parties if high school credit is to be earned. These opportunities could be used towards an Early Graduation option. Students shall not earn more than half of the credits required for high school graduation through Educational Options. Educational Options at LC-HS include the following.
Credit for High School Course Work in Middle School: If a student took high school equivalent courses while in middle school, complete the appropriate form with your parent or educational guardians. The requested credits will count towards high school graduation requirements and will be placed on the high school transcript. In order to receive credit, the course needed to be taught by a high school staff member or prior approval from the High School Principal. The student will receive a pass/fail grade. Students will need to submit an application to receive high school credit. Please see your high school counselor for this application.
Testing Out/Demonstrating Proficiency: The testing out/demonstrating proficiency option is an opportunity for a student to test out of and receive credit for a course prior to taking it. This allows students who have demonstrated proficiency in the core course content to accelerate through the curriculum at a faster pace. The testing-out option will be available to students at various times before the beginning of the next semester (August and January). LC-HS has set the proficiency level at 80%, meaning a student must receive 80% on the test to opt-out and receive credit for the class. The testing out option for receiving credit may not meet NCAA Clearinghouse standards for prospective college athletes, please check with the school counselor. All assessments are skills-based tests and will measure the student’s current competency level in the corresponding course. Students may request course syllabi before the exam date and will only be provided one opportunity per course to pass the test. In addition to passing the test, students may be required to complete projects/assignments that are part of the course that support the demonstration of proficiency that was not part of the test. The student will receive a pass/fail grade. The student will receive a pass/fail grade. Students will need to submit an application to receive high school credit. Please see your high school counselor for this application.
